Scar therapy (ScarWork)

Scar is not only an aesthetic problem. Its presence can also be associated with pain, itching and the formation of adhesions. Therefore, to prevent the negative effects of scarring, it is important to increase its mobility and separate it from adjacent tissues as soon as possible. A physiotherapist can use a variety of manual techniques, as well as instruct the patient on how they can care for the scar themselves.

Manual scar therapy involves gentle techniques that increase mobility and separate the scar from other tissues. This makes scars more flexible and softer.

A scar is a fibrous tissue that forms at the site of damage to a large amount of basement membrane. The deeper the damage, the greater the damage to the basement membrane and the greater the risk of scar formation.

In scar care, scar mobilization plays an important role. If a scar is left without intervention, fascial adhesions can develop, which can affect neighboring organs and cause pain not only in the area of the scar, but also in further areas: for example, a scar in the liver area can cause pain in the right shoulder or hip.

Scar therapy - why is it so important? The mobility of scar tissue is of great importance for the patient's later functioning and health. First of all, it helps to avoid pain in different areas of the body, itching or burning, and reduces unpleasant visual sensations.
