Osteoarthritis of the knee

Osteoarthritis of the knee

The results of the study showed that HILT high-energy laser therapy had a beneficial effect on patients with osteoarthrosis of the knee (OAK) compared to conventional physiotherapy treatment (CPT) and therapeutic exercise (ET). Here are the main findings of the study:

1 - Pain: HILT was effective in reducing knee pain.

Patients in the HILT group experienced greater pain reduction compared to the CPT and ET groups. The results were maintained for 12 weeks.

2 Flexion range of motion: HILT improved the knee's flexion range of motion. Patients in the HILT group had greater improvement compared to other groups.

3 Functional tests: HILT combined with exercise had a positive effect on the results of functional tests such as the Timed Up and Go Test (TUG) and the 6-minute walk test (6MWT). Patients in the HILT group achieved the following. better results compared to other groups.

4 Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Pain Scale (WOMAC): The WOMAC pain subscale scores in the HILT group were similar to those in the CPT group. Overall, WOMAC scale scores indicated improved function in patients in the HILT group.

To summarize, study confirms HILT's effectiveness in relieving pain, improving range of motion and function in patients with OAK. HILT showed better results compared to CPT and ET.

HILT's mechanisms of action include analgesic, anti-inflammatory, improved microcirculation and tissue healing.
